Video above. Thousands of people took to the streets for the third night in a row in solidarity with hungerstriker D. Koufontinas. One of the chants of the protesters: “Mitsotaki katharma” (aka:scum) This is a slur current PM Mitsotakis inherited from his father, who was also PM of Greece in the ’90s.
Thousands have defied for the third consecutive day the reign of fear, censorship and terror imposed by the greek government on any protest or voice in solidarity to the simple demands of a political prisoner, Dimitris Koufontinas, whose death is imminent, after 55 days of hunger strike.
The vast majority of the protests all over Greece during the last 6 weeks have been attacked, without even an excuse, as soon as people started to gather. Even a mention of Koufontinas name on Facebook and you get a ban or your FB page is taken down. This has even happened to politicians, lawyers, scholars and academics.
Another example of greek cops being reckless, thinking that they can drive whether they want, endangering people, themselves and public property, like in this case on the pavement of Syntagma Square, the central square of Athens, in front of the greek parliament. The pavement over there is made of marble, that due to its everyday use, is like driving on glass. Is the reckless rider going to pay for the damage he has caused or is the greek public once again will be obliged to pay for his recklessness?
The incident took place on March 2, 2021, during a pre-gathering for a protest in solidarity with Dimitris Koufodinas, who has been on a hunger strike since the 8th of January 2021.
As it has been recorded in many videos, dozens of biker cops roamed all over the square in an attempt to intimidate and spread fear amongst protesters. And while they had several protesters encircled, suddenly hundreds of other protesters “flooded” Syntagma Sq., forcing them to flee in a hurry. This motorbike cop was one of them.
