he advance of COVID-19 continues in the same proportion as the attacks against workers. Mato Grosso already registers, even though underreporting may be given, 5,832 deaths; ICUs, speaking of those destined for the poor population and without health plans, already have more than 100% in the Occupancy Rate; infection rates in children, adolescents and young people have been growing at an alarming rate. Such increase is related to the most varied problems existing in our society: denialism, uncontrolled leisure and without the necessary care, return to normal functions in precarious and unhealthy work environments, buses overcrowded to serve the interests of bosses in their private profit, lack of an efficient and real social policy etc. If food is lacking at home, if bills are accumulating,
Mato Grosso will undergo, for 15 days, a lockdown“Hybrid” – according to the erroneous notion that Seduc and the Government have about the practice of education that has been expanding throughout the state. It will, in fact, be an application of a “curfew” after a certain time, normally maintaining all circulation of male and female workers, students – the whole society – during “commercial” hours; the idea is not aimed at stopping the normal functioning of the commercial sector in the state, on the contrary, it seeks to apply a curfew after a certain time – from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am. The flow, interaction and possible agglomerations will follow normally; workers will continue in their normal work routines and be at risk for their lives. And who has been trying to survive via apps, at night,
While Mauro Mendes and Emanuel Pinheiro continue in a ridiculous fight to see who else appears in the local media, it is the people who continue to suffer from the uncertainties caused by the pandemic and the profit interest of the local business community; one cannot be innocent with the big business sector, they put pressure on city halls or the state government because of the fear of losing profits and not because of the problems suffered by workers when their wages are cut. Those who really suffer from the pandemic are the workers: whether working and taking risks of contamination, whether quarantined and with the lack of adequate assistance to subsidize the high cost of living.
All the chaos that we have suffered from the pandemic is linked to government policies; one thing is the lack of knowledge about something new that appears in society and another thing is the lack of interest in applying social policies that really seek to serve the population and move forward in containing the contamination by COVID-19. When state policy strives to serve only big businessmen, agribusiness and privileged sectors of the Judiciary and Legislative, in the midst of pandemic chaos, this makes it clear that there is a choice within a political project of society. The social policies of restraint, aid and the practice of death policy itself are linked to the political-economic intentions of the governments (federal, state and municipal).
When institutions do not think of an effective way to meet social demands, giving greater focus on policies to serve the large business, agribusiness and the high echelons of the judiciary – increase in salaries and funds for the Legislative and Judiciary, when the The executive sector continues to suffer from precarious conditions – the actions are part of a policy of prioritizing a sector of the social class: those who accumulate rivers of money while the people suffer from the misery generated not only by the pandemic, but by the constant increase in the cost of living. .
The flexibilities that have been occurring since 2020 have been to meet the pressure from the private sectors. There were no real concerns with the unemployed population, with the self-employed, with the population living in precarious housing (without basic sanitation) and with those who have been suffering from evictions authorized by the Judiciary of Mato Grosso. In addition, what has been explicit is a fight of “political egos” – the governors give themselves to this luxury – between Mauro Mendes and Emanuel Pinheiro… If the federal sphere already hinders an attempt to “manage” the pandemic, by decreeing, for example, which states and municipalities would be prohibited from buying vaccines, here in Mato Grosso, governor and mayor of Cuiabá enter into completely unsuccessful clashes to establish who should attend the victims of COVID-19 or who will maintain or which decree is worth more – state or municipal. While the ones above fight, the ones below suffer with the efforts of trying to survive in the chaos generated by capitalism.
For those who have money: Constant Profit
The biggest concern of government officials is with the economy, but with the economic profitability of big businessmen and not with serious economic policies to support the population that has really been suffering from the pandemic. The big financial speculators, the big landowners, the urban entrepreneurs with high financial accumulation … these were never deeply affected by the pandemic crisis, on the contrary, they went on and on profiting and profiting – economic crisis only exists for us, workers, that we sell / exchange our physical and intellectual strength (if not our own blood / life) so that we can afford a little dignified life.
The cost of living of our people has risen violently and at the same time we continue with the frozen minimum wage. Emergency aid makes survival possible, but it becomes insignificant when the cost of food, medicine, electricity, water, fuel and everything else continues to rise. So, it is evident that the government’s economic concern is for the small scare in the bosses’ pocket! If there was a real concern for the population, subjects that really move the economy, whether through production, sale, consumption, etc., policies that characterize a “death policy” would not be applied – causing the workers to follow taking risks in crowded buses and performing unhealthy jobs,
Mato Grosso continues to exempt landowners, continues not to tax the big businessmen in a real way and, in addition to this passage of cloth, continues to provide tax incentives. The people go on crowded buses, precarious health posts, scrapped schools, lack of water in the neighborhoods, lack of decent housing and low wage income. The people will continue to suffer as long as we do not have, in this pandemic, a policy of mass vaccination for everyone!
Curfew for bobó tcheira-tcheira
What we will be facing is a measure, not that it is not necessary, but totally intended to deceive the population. The flow of male and female workers will follow normally, the profit of the bosses will follow from wind to pulp, because the economy cannot stop (it has not stopped, especially when it comes to the biggest debtors to the public coffers of Mato Grosso – Agribusiness). The economy cannot stop, even if we continue to lose a few more lives, even if we exceed the record of 6,000 thousand deaths in our state, it cannot stop even if we have already experienced the overcrowding of the ICUs and are within an explicit collapse (we have already reached the mark) 99% of the ICUs occupied and a significant number of people waiting for vacancies).
There are huge problems caused by general liberation and the large flow of people in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, shopping malls, etc. The denialist discourse gained rapid proportion and use by our population, and the governor of the state even used denialism to advance his state policy of attacks at various times. The state collapsed in hospitals, reached the peak of calamity due to lack of ICUs, lack of frontline workers for health and necessary supplies. What will be the solution adopted by the municipal and state governments?
Another inconsistency is the functioning of private schools during this period or the attempt by the government of Mauro Mendes to compel public schools to carry out “on-call doubts” or the measure by the city hall of Emanuel Pinheiro to take workers to teach schools. Positions that contradict the logic of the state and municipal decrees themselves. In Cuiabá, and in several other municipalities in the state, the extreme right of negation, the Direita MT, joined with entrepreneurs of Education to put pressure for the face-to-face return of schools, triggering several fronts – “acts” in front of city halls, the undersigned , letters to government officials, etc. In this, we see the lucrative relationship between the extreme right and the “liberals”, a relationship that is also reproduced in the other issues that involve the country today. In their distorted speeches, they affirm their concern with the education of children and young people. In the end, we know that the motives that move them are quite different – to reinforce a negative narrative and to protect the profits of the education business. State government and city hall of Cuiabá gave in easily. The result has already been shown, a large number of workers / students affected by COVID-19. The question is: who serves the functioning of schools even in the face of the collapse of health in Mato Grosso (increase in cases and deaths from COVID, lack of ICU beds and basic supplies in hospitals)? It is certainly not for children and teenagers. we know well that the motives that move them are quite different – to reinforce a negative narrative and to protect the profits of the Education business. We will go through fifteen days of a “hybrid lockdown” (mini lockdown, using the governmental concept), during which, what may increase is the practice of the Police State of Adjustments, greater punitivism and violence against the population in the peripheries and streams; fines of R $ 500 reais for individuals, in addition to other possible repressive practices and violence against the population. We will continue to face a normal routine for those who need to work in order to survive, with some workers affected (those who work at night) and at the risk of losing their jobs and without any help to cover the high cost of our lives. Increase the number of police on the streets, impose fines against the civilian population, to give greater repressive power against the population… is this the only way to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its new variants? Is this the only way to prevent the collapse (already in our face) of hospitals?
There must be an emergency aid that has as a north the dignified survival of our people, not a profitable north for the coffers of the state. For, if the concern with the economy of Mato Grosso were real, the first move would be to tax agribusiness and big businessmen who profit from the sweat, blood and death of our population.
The exit that we have left in this conjuncture of death and precariousness of life
We are clear that our lives are not easy and that things will not improve overnight, but we must recover the strength of resistance and rebellion for the organization and struggle of the workers against all this policy of death that governors and bosses have pushed us to experience. Since they force us to work and take life risks in the midst of an accelerated pandemic, with no chance of dignified survival; it is urgent that we also take direct action as a primary tool to combat all this injustice and death policy. If it is necessary for us to work normally in the midst of collapse, that we have the strength to take to the streets and claim Decent Life: quarantine for life, general strike for life, emergency aid for everyone and everyone who suffers from job insecurity and unemployment and with dignified value
It is by popular force, organized direct action against class enemies that we can move forward in the reconstruction of a strong social vector for the social revolution.
