Email newly obtained by PressProgress shows Conservative officials are considering revoking Paul Frommâs party membership
The Conservative Party of Canada is considering revoking a party membership held by one of Canadaâs most notorious neo-Nazis.
On Monday evening, Conservative leader Erin OâToole announced he was taking steps to have Conservative MP Derek Sloan removed from caucusafter PressProgress reported that a prominent Canadian neo-Nazi donated to Sloanâs Conservative leadership campaign in August 2020.
âRacism is a disease of the soul,â OâToole said in a statement.
âDerek Sloanâs acceptance of a donation from a well-known white supremacist is far worse than a gross error of judgement or failure of due diligence.â
Paul Fromm, who self-identifies as a âwhite nationalist,â confirmed to PressProgressthat he purchased a Conservative Party of Canada membership and cast a vote for Derek Sloan during the 2020 Conservative leadership election.
âAs far as I know, Iâm still paid up and in good standing,â Fromm told PressProgressTuesday afternoon.
âI voted for Sloan,â the neo-Nazi said. âHe was against cancel culture. He was also very strong on the danger posed by Red China.â
Moments later, Fromm informed PressProgress he had received an email from the executive director of the Conservative Party of Canada saying that officials are moving to expel him from the party.
âOn January 18, 2021, it was recommended to the Conservative Party of Canada that your membership be revoked,â the letter signed by Conservative Party Executive Director Janet Fryday Dorey states. âPlease be advised that your membership with the Conservative Party of Canada is currently being reviewed.â
âA decision is pending and you have 7 days to respond.â
âWhat sort of Anglo-Saxon justice is it not to have any specific to which to offer a defence / explanation?â Fromm asked.
Conservative Party officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PressProgress about Frommâs membership status.
Fromm told PressProgress he believes âa purge is on,â noting that, only recently, he was allowed to purchase an early bird ticket to the Conservative Partyâs 2021 âvirtualâ policy convention.
âI joined up for the party policy conference about a week ago,â Fromm said.
Monday night, following OâTooleâs announcement that he is moving to boot Sloan from caucus, Sloan issued a statement criticizing the Conservative Party for selling Fromm a membership and allowing the neo-Nazi to vote for him.
âWe also discovered through an investigation into the voters list that the same individual under the name of Frederick P Fromm applied to be a member of the CPC, and the Party accepted his application,â Sloan wrote.
âEven though the representatives of the campaigns of OâToole, MacKay and Lewis all had scrutineers present, not one of the campaigns objected to his ballot, and it seems that his ballot was accepted.â
Sloan said âthe party, and the OâToole campaign, failed to uphold the same standards to which they are now applying to me.â
Frommâs social media postings show that he publicly promoted Sloanâs campaign throughout the summer of 2020. In August, Fromm praised Sloan for opposing orders to wear masks
in public during the COVID-19 pandemic and for a pledge to repeal human rights legislation protecting gender identity.
On âCanada First Immigration Reform Committee,â another website that is run by Fromm, the neo-Nazi solicited donations on behalf of Sloanâs campaign, highlighting Sloanâs pledge to âlower immigration levels.â.

Fromm self-identifies as a âwhite nationalistâ and rejects the term âNaziâ because he thinks the word is a meant to belittle Adolf Hitlerâs party,
Organizations that closely monitor hate groups, including the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, have repeatedly identified Fromm as a neo-Nazi.
âMr. O’Toole is outraged that anyone would accept donations from this individual and will be looking into the matterâ
The Conservative Party of Canada says party leader Erin OâToole is âoutragedâ after discovering one of his MPs accepted money from a notorious neo-Nazi.
The Conservative leader was reacting to a request for comment from PressProgressinquiring about Elections Canada records that show neo-Nazi Paul Fromm donated $131 to the Conservative Party of Canada in 2020.
Conservative Party Communications Director Cory Hann told PressProgress the donation was not directed to the party, but to the failed Conservative leadership candidate Derek Sloan, who is currently a sitting MP in OâTooleâs caucus.
âThis individual donated to Derek Sloanâs leadership campaign in August, not to Mr. OâToole or the Conservative Party,â Hann said. âAs per the leadership contest rules, the party merely processed the donations of leadership campaigns.â
âMr. OâToole is outraged that anyone would accept donations from this individual and will be looking into the matter.â
Confirmation of the neo-Nazi donation comes a day after OâToole issued a statement distancing himself from Trumpist extremism and declaring under his leadership, the Conservatives intend to be a âmoderate, pragmatic, mainstream party.â
âThere is no place for the far-right in our party,â OâToole emphasized.
Frommâs postal code matches one used to place a donation to the white nationalist Canadian Nationalist Party in 2019.
Fromm self-identifies as a âwhite nationalistâ and rejects the term âNaziâ because he thinks the word is a meant to belittle Adolf Hitlerâs party, however, organizations that closely monitor hate groups, including the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, have identified Fromm as a neo-Nazi.
A 1994 government report prepared for the Solicitor General alleged Fromm personally helped organize a birthday party for Hitler, which was to be attended by local skinheads. The report also observed that Fromm spoke at a âMartyrâs Day Rally,â an event honouring the death of an American neo-Nazi leader.
Fromm has also appeared in photographs with members of the neo-Nazi terrorist group âBlood and Honour,â an âinternational neo-Nazi networkâ that was added to Canadaâs official list of terrorist groups under the Criminal Code last year.
In one photo, Fromm can be seen wearing a âwhite prideâ t-shirt holding the groupâs banner as members of the terror group make Nazi salutes.
Frommâs social media postings show that he repeatedly promoted Sloanâs campaign in August 2020, around the same time as his donation.
In one post dated August 3, Fromm shared a link to his website praising Sloan for his pledge to repeal human rights legislation protecting gender identity. On August 10, Fromm again praised Sloan for opposing orders to wear masks in public during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On âCanada First Immigration Reform Committee,â another website that is run by Fromm, the neo-Nazi solicited donations on behalf of Sloanâs campaign using text that appears to have been copy-pasted from Sloanâs campaign emails.
One solicitation on Frommâs website praises Sloan as âthe only immigration reformer running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada,â and quotes Sloan as stating: âI am the only leadership candidate who has pledged to lower immigration levels.â

Sloan, who is one of the Conservative Partyâs hardline social conservatives, has been a source of repeated controversy for the party.
Last year, Sloan made national headlines after suggesting the âcause of sexual orientationâ is not âscientifically clear.â More recently, Sloan has courted controversy by opposing legislation that would ban conversion therapy.
Sloan faced calls to be kicked out of the party after questioning whether Theresa Tam, Canadaâs Chief Public Health Officer, is more loyal to China than to Canada.
Last month, the Conservative MP also came under fire after sponsoring a petition that described the COVID-19 vaccine as âhuman experimentation.â
The Conservative Party did not clarify if they intend to return the donation.
Fromm last donated to the Conservatives in 2004 when made a $300 donation to Conservative MP Bob Dechertâs campaign.
Update: Following publication of this story, Conservative leader Erin OâToole issued a statement indicating he has âinitiated the process to remove Mr. Sloan from the Conservative Party of Canada caucusâ and âwill not allow Mr. Sloan to run as a candidate for our party.â
OâToole said Sloanâs acceptance of the donation from Fromm was âfar worse than a gross error of judgment or failure of due diligence.â
Conservative MP Derek Sloan also issued a public statement indicating he was not personally aware of Frommâs donation prior to PressProgressâ reporting.
âPaul Fromm is a notorious name to some, but not to everyone, and clearly this name, mixed as it was in the midst of thousands of other donations, did not ring any bells to my team,â Sloan said, adding he has ârequested this donation be returned.â
Editorâs Note: This article was updated shortly after it was first published to include additional information showing Fromm had promoted Sloan on social media and actively solicited donations on behalf of Sloanâs leadership campaign.
