On 11 September, tens of thousands of health care workers demonstrated in Warsaw. The end of the demonstration was not the end of the movement : they occupied the street, in front of the Prime Minister’s office and set up tents.
The movement was initiated by comrades from the OZZPiP union, but it was not only nurses and midwives who were present. Ambulance drivers, physiotherapists, doctors, etc., the entire health sector was united.
Eight demands were put forward by the National Committee for the Strike and Mobilisation of Health Workers. They relate to pay, recruitment and working conditions. As in many other countries, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the consequences of the destruction of the health system.
