Today on March 8th, 2021, we carried out an intervention at the check-in counter of Aegean Airlines, drawing attention to the situation of D. Koufontinas with banners, flyers and slogans. At 11:40 am today, one of the few flights in times of the pandemic went from Berlin to Athens, so we were able to meet passengers at the check-in desk who were on their way to Greece.
The following is the flyer that was distributed:
Dear passengers,
Aegean Airlines brings Greece closer !
Brings oppressive tyranny closer. Brings repression closer. Brings the EU’s border concentration camps closer, where those fleeing war, poverty or suffering are forced to exist in utter deprivation. Brings the state murder of political dissidents closer to the new normality. Brings widespread corruption, nepotism and fascist allies closer.

Brings hunger striker Dimitris Koufontinas closer to death, as the far right government seeks to wipe out emancipatory movements and reappropriate history.
Dimitris Koufontinas is a revolutionary prisoner who was a member of the revolutionary group 17th of November (17N), an organization whose name comes from the Polytechnical University uprising in Athens in 1973 and the end of the dictatorship. The organization was eliminated in 2002 but since his imprisonment he has never stopped fighting.
Koufontinas has been on hunger strike since the 8th of January 2021 after the right wing conservative ruling party New Democracy brought in a change to the law, according to which prisoners who have been convicted or accused as terrorists are to be transferred to high-security prisons and not agricultural prisons.
The hunger, and since the 22nd February thirst striker demands a transfer from the old high security prison in Domokos to Korydallos Prison in Athens, an end to the arbitrary legal and actual interventions against him as well as a stop to the systematically discriminatory handling he faces.
The greek state, using the Corona pandemic measures as an excuse, continues and intensifies its repression against social movements, preventing people from taking to the streets, exerting even more police violence, evicting squats and enforcing laws that allow cops to station themselves within universities, with the ruling party acting in whichever way they choose.
Be it New Democracy (ND), the Christian Democrats (CDU), reactionary parties across the EU shatter the illusion of a tolerant, liberal Europe and reveal the dead bodies built into the foundations of neoliberalism, where hunger strikers are led to death, dissident musicians imprisoned, such as in the case of Pablo Hasél and violent oppression against anti-authoritarian movements and people fleeing from destructive circumstances intensified.
Death from hunger strike means murder, and brings Greece closer to a state of totalitarianism, the repercussions of which will be felt far beyond its self-imposed borders.
Solidarity with the imprisoned militants who fight against these conditions.
Solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas!
Fight to the end!
