Every year we celebrate the day of liberation from Nazi-fascism. A long time has passed since that April 25, 1945, and time always plays its cards with our present. We cannot ask for more of the new generations, they can keep the memory, not the memory.

The last protagonists of the partisan struggle are leaving us, but it is their political and moral heritage that we will have to defend with all our strength. The political and cultural reaction towards the fascist upsurge is today with all evidence too neglected, even by the same forces that refer to anti-fascism. In the negationist, racist and homophobic offensive that rages almost everywhere, it is accepted to place historical fascism among the “Italian traditions”, completely neglecting its cowardice and subjection to economic power. Most of the time when we talk about fascism we remember the folklore of the propaganda of the regime of the time, with its laces and its bundles surmounted by black-clad skulls. But fascism in its essence was not only this, and if in a few words we want to summarize its origin and its development, we must grasp in the state of liberal politics and in the economic situation of the time the scenario in which fascism was born, in Italy and not only. Fascism was the response of the bourgeoisie and the financial classes to the struggles of the entire working class and was an authoritarian choice to make the total debts and costs of the first imperialist world war pay for the working women and the less well-off. Today when we talk about fascism we should try to understand the causes which are certainly complex but clear in its essence, those of the genesis of the fascist dictatorship. For this reason the role of anti-fascism still remains important to denounce fascist crimes in wars of aggression and repression, to combat the historical falsehoods that are rampant, to clarify the danger of an authoritarian retreat of bourgeois institutions and of the current political framework. Anti-fascism thus becomes the assumption of class awareness and indispensable responsibility in the face of the serious crisis we are going through. It is necessary, to the eyes and minds, to impose the detachment from the bedlam of false information in order to create the conditions for mass distraction,

Today the new fascism works on several fronts, supports forms of behavioral irrationalism, works on social unease without proposing credible solutions, advocates forms of social and racist traditionalism, is allied, today as yesterday, with the underworld and mafias, fights all forms of enlargement of political and social rights, aiming at the fragmentation of the class on an ethnic, religious, national basis.

If with the Draghi government, in fact a government of national unity, the only parliamentary opposition is paradoxically Brothers of Italy, we have Regions for some time in the hands of the Northern League right or, like the Marches, those who have no qualms about declaring themselves openly fascist , in which the institutional externalizations can be considered folkloristic but have heavy consequences in terms of rights, usability, health and social security.

However, we know well that the current Draghi government was wanted by international finance to find solutions to the crisis that safeguard capitalism, pouring the burden of debt on the working class and the popular classes: it is also in these class dynamics that there are similarities with the past. So let’s pay attention to the concepts, purposes, words and lexicon, to the colonization of the imaginary that are continually fed to us by the media: when we hear that we are at war, when we see uniforms and soldiers in roles as saviors of the homeland, it means that we have already passed the guard level, when military spending is considered a priority at the expense of social spending, when thieves and criminals are rewarded and promoted, with 30% of GDP produced by the mafias, it is time to recall the true values ​​of the Resistance and the Liberation Struggle. If this is the scenario, it is up to us to reactivate the conflict between capital and work and to rediscover the moral legacy of those who took up arms to fight Nazi-fascism, but also for social justice. We must remember, those partisans and those partisans, because they knew how to say no to war and fascism, they said no to the Social Republic and its legal codes. They chose rebellion, they refused a world to build another, made up of peace and social justice. We anarchists and libertarians remain on this side of the barricade, the one that defends solidarity between the exploited, we have not yet bowed our heads, we know who the enemy is, we recognize him even in these thick mists, as the partisans said in 1945: death at fascism freedom to peoples.
