I. A BIT ABOUT US/ IDEALS

FERAL CRUST

We are an eco-anarchist collective based in Davao, Philippines. We aim to create a small, autonomous community land project. It is set on a hilly terrain within the remaining forests that is home to native wildlife and both indigenous and non-indigenous people.

LAND PROJECT AND COMMUNAL LIVING

We are working towards establishing an autonomous subsistence zone and living experiment based around principles of mutual aid, cooperation and ecology. We hope for it to become a place for direct communication, nurturing of relationships, establishing affinity and solidarity, working alongside land-based people (neighbors/community) and promoting mutual connection with all forms of life.

SUBSISTENCE

We strive for subsistence; therefore, freedom and autonomy. We are finding ways to relearn and implement the skills and knowledge that were essential for self-sufficiency (for instance, traditional/ancestral skills that sustained people for many generations in a reciprocal relationship with their land base)however we will also include practical uses of any modern method, materials and application that is accessible in the current context(i.e scavenging, recycling, reusing). Additionally, we are also inspired by both indigenous and horticultural folks who still depend on the land, thereby, still able to continue their ecological integrity and fully integrated holistic and spiritual approaches and uses of natural resources available in their locale. Such knowledge and wisdom are worthy of consideration with regards to increasing independence and self-determination in a more natural and ethical way.

ECOLOGY

We believe that it is important to re-establish a healthy relationship with our environment/local bio-region – discovering the connection between ourselves and the land. Everything in the ecosystem is interdependent and we are a part of it. We take full account of this interconnection by participating and cooperating with nature. Likewise, we highly recognize the importance of defending the land by taking a stand in protecting the well-being of all life that lives upon it (i.e. restoring lands that are being destroyed or conserving/preserving remaining wild areas by all means possible).

DIRECT COMMUNITY

We encourage egalitarian and equitable relationships considering the importance of personal and collectively applying cultural values such as mutual aid, respect, and solidarity. It includes the building of trust and forging strong kinship ties within the members of the community, the immediate inhabitants of the place such as neighbors, friends, or alliances regardless of race, nation, gender, age, and physical/mental capacity. We desire to reach out to people on a personal basis and find affinity in that way – enriching practical relations of day-to-day life rather than from any ideology. Furthermore, we believe that the natural environment helps in shaping our experience, influencing our personal interactions and relationships. Likewise, an ethical orientation to the land is essential for the well-being of the community.

II. AIMS AND GOALS

  • To create a stable ecosystem through permaculture and wildlife/nature regeneration
  • To learn and practice nature-related skills and subsistence living
  • To provide open teaching, skill-sharing, and event space to the community
  • To engage in cooperative work with both local and non-local people improving cultural exchanges and solidarity

We are badly in need of solidarity donation for us to purchase needed items such as wood and bamboo for construction, more seedling, additional tools, additional barrels, garden nets, galvanized roof sheet, plywood, and hollow blocks, sand and gravel mix for concrete structures.
