Last week Fox News host Tucker Carlson released a trailer for Patriot Purge — a pseudodocumentary which casts the Jan. 6 insurrection as a false flag aimed at stripping away the constitutional rights of conservative patriots. The multi-part special, already criticized for spreading falsehoods, stars far-right propagandists like “Stop the Steal” organizer Ali Alexander and BlazeTV host Elijah Schaffer.

On Oct. 27, 2021, Ethan Ralph played the trailer during his online show, Killstream, and asked his guest, white nationalist vlogger Paul Ramsey (a.k.a. “RamZPaul”) for his thoughts. Ramsey, who has spoken at white supremacist gatherings, remarked that ideas held by the far-right are spreading into the mainstream. He also downplayed the violence that took place on Jan. 6 and referred to it as “Patriots Day.”

“[W]hat do you think about just how hard the right-wing media has been hittin’ the official narrative in general, and then this specific Tucker project?” Ralph asked Ramsey after the trailer finished.

Ramsey said the trailer “looks really good” and said he was “so happy” because only “four years ago we had these cucks like David French and Bill Kristol and they were basically the right-wing.” He added that during the 2016 election “we just made fun of those people” and claimed they are now “thoroughly discredited.”

“Now everyone on the Right — hell, they’re sounding like RamZPaul, right?” he boasted. “Tucker Carlson is sounding like RamZPaul.” He told Ralph that their ideas are “spreading” and “becoming mainstream. He cited as evidence his close personal relationship with right-wing commentator Michelle Malkin, claiming that he had dinner with her and her husband.

In 2019 Malkin became a vocal supporter of Holocaust-denying white nationalist Nick Fuentes and his far-right political movement known as the “groypers.” In both 2020 and 2021 she spoke at Fuentes’ America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC).

“She talks to Tucker every day,” he continued. “They’re good friends. And so the connection here is pretty close that these people, I’m sure — Tucker, he’s probably watched you, Ethan. I’m sure he consumes media… They are aware. So people are waking up to what’s really happening now. And it’s hard for the regime to lie anymore, especially with social media.”

Ramsey went on to downplay the violence that took place on Jan. 6, describing it as “mostly a bunch of boomers who were waved into the Capitol” and stood around taking photos. He also mocked members of congress who were forced to flee the mob, and suggested that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez turned the event into “one of her sexual rape fantasies.”

After reiterating his belief that what took place was not an insurrection, Ramsey told Ralph that he referred to Jan. 6 as “Patriots Day.” He explained that while he doesn’t “advocate people doing anything illegal,” what took place that day was “just trespassing” — a claim which ignores violence against Capitol police, destruction of property, and the attempt to prevent the 2020 election from being certified.
