Defensive Instructions for the People

On 11 April 1831 the Poor Man’s Guardian published a supplement reproducing extracts from Colonel Frances Macerone’s manual on street fighting, Defensive Instructions for the People.  This edition, as well as the book, was widely circulated, including in Huddersfield, in the 1830s and into the Chartist period.

It is here reproduced out of historical interest.  Readers themselves can judge how relevant the advice is to today’s street fighters.

A biography of Macerone/Maceroni can be found on the following link to the website of Bruce Ware Allen, which also leads to the full book, available on Google Books.
