Wuppertal. Germany. A statement by Jeder Baum Zählt (Every Tree Counts) on the police operation in the Osterholz Forest on March 11, 2021. The forest is occupied since August 2019. The autonomous group also speak about the hungerstrike of Dimitris Koufontinas and the increasing police violence in Greece.

On March 11, 2021, there was an attack on barricades which were erected to protect our new world.

After we dismantled (as promised) some of the barricades, we unfortunately had to start reinforcing them again. Last week a part of our structures were attacked (and partially destroyed) by unknown persons and, in addition, two days ago the police invaded the forest with a disproportionately high number of cops “only” to remove “death wood”, we consider this as a massive provocation and a clear attack on our small oasis.

In this context, we consider it necessary to make clear that we, as well as the squatters, will not be intimidated by such actions. One way to articulate this is to rebuild the structures and barricades that have been destroyed and for our protection they even hace to be extended under these circumstances.

When character masks, (like the Oetelshofen company) lay hands on a five hectare habitat because of their profit interests, we consider this a deeply violent declaration of war and thus deny our opponent any legitimacy to discuss non-violence with us.

We do not consider the attack of the henchmen of capital as an isolated event. We also consider the resurgence of the Greek junta as proof that self-organized resistance to capital and its logic is a necessity. Greece is a place where street terror by the police has long since returned to everyday life and where a image is emerging that makes it abundantly clear what the rulers have in store for all of us in times of crisis. Dimitris Koufontinas, a member of the revolutionary organization “17 November” is still imprisoned by the Greek state and still threatened with death. In the working-class neighborhoods, people are arbitrarily beaten up and hounded by the cops. At the same time, the brave people on the streets of Hellas prove to us every day that it is possible to protect our social ties. They often do this with the help of the same barricades that we are erecting here.

The image of revolt against the deadly logic of our rulers is no longer an isolated case for some time now. The uprisings in Belgium, Chile, Spain, Lebanon, Catalonia, the Netherlands and countless other examples proves that places of resistance against the tyranny of capital can erupt and multiply anytime…

We have blocked the road to open new ways!
